Our Mission and Values 📖
Imperial Brain & Spine was founded in 2023 by Santhosh G. Thavarajasingam, Daniele Ramsay, and Hariharan Subbiah Ponniah, who are alumni of Imperial College London. With their combined expertise in neurosurgery and orthopaedic spine surgery research, they established this think tank to address the growing need for innovative neuroscience research and to provide opportunities for young researchers, doctors and medical students to engage in high-impact research projects.
Our three long-term goals are:
1) An AI tool that can fully or semi-automate the systematic review and meta-analysis process, transforming the research landscape and enabling researchers to concentrate on the more complex and creative aspects of their work.
2) Build large neurosurgical, spine surgical & neurological patient databases with advanced analytics capabilities, to improve patient outcomes and inform future research efforts using publicly available data.
3) Developing user-friendly AI-based diagnostic tools for complex neurological and spine conditions that can accurately predict outcomes and inform treatment decisions, leading to better patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
Our founders have extensive experience in neurosurgery and orthopaedic spine surgery research, which has informed the development of the research initiatives at Imperial Brain & Spine. Their combined knowledge and expertise have enabled the think tank to create a robust framework that focuses on producing cutting-edge research and nurturing young talent in the field of neuroscience.
At Imperial Brain & Spine, we prioritize collaboration and scientific rigor. We recognize that the most innovative research is often produced through collaborative efforts, and we strive to create an environment that fosters creativity, growth, and the exchange of ideas. Our multidisciplinary approach combines the expertise of neurosurgeons, young researchers, and medical students to drive innovation and breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of complex neurological conditions.
We also place great emphasis on nurturing the next generation of neuroscientists. Through a meticulous screening process, we match medical students with research initiatives that align with their skills and interests, facilitating their growth as researchers and future leaders in the field. Under the guidance of experienced neurosurgery mentors, our student teams conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses, contributing to top-tier evidence-based research in the areas of brain and spine.
At Imperial Brain & Spine, we also recognize the potential of artificial intelligence in transforming the research landscape. Our long-term goal is to create an AI tool that can fully or semi-automate the systematic review and meta-analysis process, enabling researchers to concentrate on the more complex and creative aspects of their work. We believe that by combining cutting-edge research, a collaborative learning environment, and the pursuit of AI-driven tools, Imperial Brain & Spine will make a profound impact on the field of neuroscience.
Our mission is to generate knowledge that benefits society, shape the future of neurological research, and nurture the young talent that will lead the way. Through our commitment to collaboration, scientific rigor, and the pursuit of innovation, we aim to make a significant contribution to the field of neuroscience and pave the way for a brighter future for generations to come.
