Advancing clinical neuroscience through AI
Welcome to Imperial Brain & Spine, a think tank by Imperial College London alumni, devoted to the advancement of neuroscience research, with a specific focus on brain and spine-related studies. Our multidisciplinary approach combines the expertise of neurosurgeons, neurologist and spinal orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, and medical students to drive innovation and breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of complex neurological conditions. At the core of our mission is the commitment to fostering the next generation of neuroscientists by providing medical students with the opportunity to participate in high-impact research projects.
Through a meticulous screening process, we match research students with projects that align with their skills and interests, facilitating their growth as researchers and future leaders in the field. Under the guidance of experienced neurosurgery mentors, our teams conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses, contributing to top-tier evidence-based research. This collaborative environment encourages the exchange of ideas, the cultivation of critical thinking, and the development of advanced research skills.
Imperial Brain & Spine is also at the forefront of integrating artificial intelligence in the research process.
Our three long-term goals are to create:
1. An AI tool that can fully or semi-automate the systematic review and meta-analysis process, transforming the research landscape and enabling researchers to concentrate on the more complex and creative aspects of their work.
2. Build large neurosurgical, spine surgical & neurological patient databases with advanced analytics capabilities, to improve patient outcomes and inform future research efforts using publicly available data. This database will include patient data on clinical outcomes, imaging, and genetic information, among others, providing researchers with a wealth of data to draw from and analyse.
3. Developing user-friendly AI-based diagnostic tools for complex neurological and spine conditions that can accurately predict outcomes and inform treatment decisions, leading to better patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
